A two-time Three-Day Event World Champion, and five-time Olympic veteran, Davidson has been the U.S. Combined Training Association's (USCTA) "Rider of the Year" a record fourteen times. He was a member of two Gold Medal Olympic squads, at Montreal in 1976 and Los Angeles in 1984. He was the first American to win a Gold Medal at the World Three-Day Event Championship in 1974, a feat he repeated in 1978.
In 1995, Davidson was ranked number one in the world in the World Three Day Event Rider Rankings. Davidson also topped the World Rankings in 1993. Contributing to his success in 1995 was his win at the Badminton CCI**** -- he is the only U.S. rider ever to win this event and an individual Gold Medal at the Pan American Games. He was also named the world's top individual three-day event rider by the international equestrian yearbook, L'Annee Hippique.
